Group Calls For Probe Of Appointment Of Proposed Osun CJ

A group of senior citizens of Lagos State have called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to probe the decision by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to appoint a judge of the Lagos High Court, Justice Olubunmi Oyewole, as Chief Judge of Osun State.
The group, Lagos Collectives, in a statement issued by its chairman, Professor Tejumade Akitoye- Rhodes, on Friday, noted that the call became necessary following the discovery that the decision of the ACN government in Osun State, to make Oyewole the Chief Judge of Osun State, was in apparent compensation for his conviction three years ago of a prominent Lagos son, Chief Olabode George.
“The crass blatant attempt by Mr Rauf Aregbesola, the governor of Osun State, to impose Justice Olubunmi Oyewole as the Chief Judge of Osun State is an untoward turning in the history of governance and the judiciary in this nation. It is a crude, indecent compensation and payback to a Lagos-based Judge, who has been accused of untidiness and complicity with the ACN leadership in the unfair imprisonment of Chief Olabode George three years ago.
“We, at the Lagos Collectives, are now appealing to the National Judicial Council and the Supreme Court to scrutinize and appraise, with all decisiveness this attempt to pervert the justice system by the ACN leadership,” the statement read.

Oyewole is an oustanding judge. He is hard-working, thoroughly professional, incurruptible,fearless, yet humble and fair minded. He is everything a judge should be.He convicted Bode George and Bode Goerge appealled and his appeal was dismissed.Is this Akitoye-Rhodes a real professor or a fuji type of professor? If he has any education, he should know that a panel of three senior justices (Court of Appeal) upholding the judgement of Oyewole is a confirmation that Oyewole did the right thing. Now, former Governor Oyinlola blocked the elevation of Oyewole to the Court of Appeal. A Governor wants to appoint one of the finest judges in the country to head Osun Judiciary and some morally bankrupt and shameless people are raising dust. This is disgusting. It appears Nigeria is doomed if a professor can be involved in this type of senseless, shameless and baseless agitation.
From my years of practice in Lagos as a lawyer, I know that the judiciary of a state is always a reflection of the CJ. An example what when Segun was CJ in Lagos State. Segun was an embodiment of discipline and that permeated the Lagos juidciary.
I know that Oyewole will set a good example in Osun State and Osun judiciary under Oyewole would be a reference point in what a good judiciary should be. Congratulations Osun State.
