Gunmen vandalise office of Ebonyi head of service

UNKNOWN gunmen, in the early hours of  Thursday, vandalised the offices of the Ebonyi State head of service and four other ministries, carting away unspecified amount of money, valuables and official documents.

The hoodlums locked out workers of the offices and staffers, who, on reporting to duty around 8.00 a.m, discovered the entrance gates of the office complex were locked, with security men manning the gates absence.

Investigations by the Nigerian Tribune indicated that the offices involved were situated at the  phase 2 secretariat, housing four ministries and other departments, located at Nnnorum Street Abakaliki.

Majority of the workers, including commissioners, permanent secretaries, directors and other junior staff, were affected, as they could not gain entrance to their offices.

Worried by the development, the state head of service, Mrs Ugo Nnachi, alerted the police who came and forced the gates open and found the security men tied.

The security men were later taken to the hospital,  after one of them had fainted, as a result of exhaustion.

Findings by the Nigerian Tribune, revealed that the doors to the offices were forcefully opened by the hoodlums, after they had overpowered the security men.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Sylvester Igbo, declined comment, stating that he had not been briefed.
