Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr Yunusa Adamu Dangwani, has allayed fears of impending collapse of dams, in view heavy downpour in recent times, assuring that measures have been put in place to rehabilitate all the 15 dams across the state.

This is just as the commissioner warned water vendors and threatened to clamp down on water vendors for sabotaging government efforts at providing potable water for the  populace.

He said that the spill ways and valves of the dams had been cleared, hinting that the water level had been improved.

Making the assertion on Monday, in Kano, while speaking with journalists, the commissioner said the government had committed over N5 billion to rehabilitate dams as well as expand water works in the state.

Dr Dangwani noted that his ministry had already commenced an inspection visit to all the dams to ascertain their state of repairs, adding that as of then, all the existing dams were in good condition.

Commenting on the distribution of water to various parts of the state, he said that water demand in various parts of the state, which initially was seven million litres per day, had increased to over 450 million litres per day because of the population growth.

The commissioner added that the government was able to provide 250 million litres per day and would soon augment it to cover the total demand.
