A former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, on Monday, challenged individuals and groups calling for the resignation of President Goodluck Jonathan to come out with tangible reason for such agitation, describing such call as laughable.

Chief Babatope, a former director of publicity of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, however, called for support for the President Jonathan-led administration, in order to deliver the needed democratic dividends for the populace.

“Opposition and agitation groups have fundamental human rights to say anything, but for them to ask the president to resign is unheard of, criminal and fraud,” he said, adding that President Jonathan had not done anything against the spirit and letters of the constitution.

According to Chief Babatope, rather than castigating the president who, he said, was doing his best to unite all political enemies, “Nigerians need to pray for him and join forces against those who are plotting against the development of the country.”

Babatope warned that any attempt to move against the good intention of the current administration of President Jonathan would hinder the development of the country, while he also cautioned against any threat to unseat him.

He called on members of the National Assembly to join hands with the president in providing the dividends of democracy for the people.

Let them unseat him, and let us see who is going to replace him. Am sure it's not going to be an Hausa man, as that would mark the end of Nigeria. If they think they have the God given right to rule Nigeria by any means, they will have themselves to blame. It's time they start to read the hand writing on the wall.
